Chapter Five

Delta yawned and opened her eyes to a strange light. Wow. Very bright, and nothing was in the right place. Not her room. Because?

Oh. Yeah. Colby. She slowly stretched and took time to enjoy the memories, the sore spots. Mmm. Colby. After playing Monopoly, they’d showered and then made love twice more. The last time she’d looked at the clock, it was past four. They’d worn each other out and fell asleep with him still spooned behind her, between her legs. She shivered, a little turned-on from recalling it.

Colby wasn’t in the bed now, but she could hear him clunking around downstairs, and the smell of bacon wafted up. Holy keepers, Batman! The guy got up and made her breakfast? Definitely too good to be true.

But she wasn’t even going to think about that today. She’d enjoy him while she had him. Starting with whatever he’d cooked.

She pulled her negligee on and padded down the hall to the stairs. Passing his bathroom, she could smell toothpaste and cologne. Well. She’d really slept through a lot. He must be keeping Ghirardelli occupied too, since she hadn’t been startled awake by a wet nose to the arm.

She stopped by her bathroom to freshen up a bit, too. No sense in subjecting him to morning breath on either of their two mornings together. That was the sort of thing a person would go away remembering. She only wanted Colby to leave with good thoughts of her.

With brushed hair and teeth, deodorant, and a spritz of body spray, she went in search of her Okie.

At the kitchen doorway, she stopped just to watch.

Ghirardelli must be outside, since he still hadn’t appeared for her morning mauling.

But maybe she’d pay it forward and maul the glorious cowboy at her stove. Wowza. In his jeans and bare feet, shirtless—she saw the shirt draped over the back of a chair—the sight of him made for a very good morning, indeed. Why in the hell had she married a boring-ass banker, anyway?

Cowboys, baby. That’s where it’s at.

“Hey, sleepyhead.” He turned with a plate of bacon. “You gonna come and eat or what?”

“Mmm-hmm. Just as soon as I’m done ogling. It’s what we dirty old ladies do.”

As she reached him, he set the plate on the table and grabbed her, pulled her into him and up so her feet dangled. And kissed her—again, damn him—with such crazy, happy heat she couldn’t resist. Or stop. Or complain. Or stand, when he finally released her and let her slide down the front of him.

“Morning, Sugarsnap. Sleep good?”

Following his lead, she took a seat at the table. “I do think we slept good, but I’m not sure whether it was long enough.” She yawned and stretched her arms above her head, loving how his eyes followed the fabric at her breasts and then the hem of her nightie.

“You’d probably feel as good as I do, if you hadn’t lost so bad at Monopoly.”

“Um. I think you lost, hon.” She snatched a piece of bacon as he moved the plate away.
